Overview of Federal Work Study

Work study is a federally-funded program that provides part-time employment opportunities to students with demonstrated financial need. Work-study awards are based on an annual allocation and cannot be guaranteed to all eligible students.

  • The standard work-study award is $2,000 for the given academic year.
  • Students are paid weekly based on hours worked in that given week.
  • Work-study funds are not/cannot be credited to the student’s tuition bill.

Eligibility

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
  • Must have completed a FAFSA application and completed verification (if applicable)
  • Estimated family contribution (EFC) cannot be higher than 30,000
  • Students must be enrolled at least half-time; If less than half-time, students may work as long as they intend to be at least half-time the following semester.
