Nursing Licensure

Welcome to the MCPHS resource for nursing licensure.

It is important to remember that licensure differs by jurisdiction; each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia have a separate and distinct Board of Nursing.

If you have any questions left unanswered by this website, please contact the Registrar’s Office at MCPHS University (617.732.2855 or email RegistrarsOffice@mcphs.edu).

Nursing Licensure

Licensure Application Preparation Sessions are offered to students in the last year of the Nursing program to prepare candidates for the licensure process.

In all jurisdictions, all candidates for nursing licensure must submit a state application form which is used to determine eligibility to sit for the NCLEX (nursing knowledge) exam for that state. Upon submitting state licensure applications, candidates should then register for the computerized NCLEX exam.

Massachusetts licensure application packets are available online in PDF form. New Hampshire application packets can be found online as well.

Application information for other jurisdictions can be found on the NCSBN Boards of Nursing website.

Family Nurse Practitioners

Graduates of the Master of Science in Nursing Program are eligible to become certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner through examination by either of two organizations: the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). Certification information is available at both websites.

Candidates are provided with the framework for application to both organizations prior to their graduation.
