Admission Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography—Accelerated General TrackFirst-year applicants can view their admission requirements on the Undergraduate Applicants page.
Students with previous college credit may transfer into the first or second year of the program and must meet the following criteria:
- Courses must have been completed at a regionally accredited college or university with a grade of a C+ in the equivalent of MAT 141, PHY 181, and all BIO and CHE courses and C or better in all other courses for transfer.
- Math and science courses taken more than ten years prior to the anticipated date of matriculation to MCPHS will not be accepted.
While there are no specific required courses for entry into the first year of our program, the admission committee will look for success in any math and science courses you have already taken. If you complete any of the courses listed below, you may receive transfer credit, and your first-year course load may be lighter. However, due to the lock-step nature of MCPHS programs, entering the first year of the program with transfer credits will not change the total length of your program. Courses other than elective courses may not be moved forward in your schedule.
Note: Matriculation into the professional phase of the Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography—Accelerated General Program depends upon space availability. Acceptance is based on overall academic performance, including performance in pre-requisite coursework and grade point average requirements, spots available at the time, and clinical site availability. Review of academic performance for matriculation into the professional phase will take place at the completion of the spring year 1 semester and will also be contingent on the successful completion of the summer year 1 semester courses. Once the Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography—General program in Boston is full (cap of 21), those meeting admission criteria will be placed on a waitlist (see information for waitlisted students below).
Information for Waitlisted Students
Those on the waitlist are welcome to continue to take the DMS General program prerequisites to be considered for matriculation into the professional phase if a spot were to become available prior to the start of the professional phase in the upcoming fall semester. These waitlisted students can also apply to transfer into the BS in Health Sciences/BS in Medical Imaging and Therapeutics or other School of Medical Imaging and Therapeutics programs, pending space availability. Waitlisted students must follow the prescribed curriculum and meet minimum requirements for consideration for matriculation into the professional phase of these programs. Acceptance is based on the top performing students in program pre-requisite courses, on spots available in each program, and is not guaranteed.
For students who meet all the requirements below, with the exception of Interpersonal Communications for Health Professionals and Healthcare Ethics, please see more information for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (Fast Track BS).
