Master of Acupuncture (MAC)

This program prepares students to become licensed acupuncturists, integrating traditional Chinese medicine with modern healthcare practices to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care.

Program Length: 32 months (full-time)

Year One: Foundations of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine

  • Build a strong foundation in acupuncture principles, techniques, and Asian medical bodywork
  • Study anatomy and physiology
  • Engage in professional development and explore DEI in healthcare.
  • Begin self-care practices with Qi Gong to nurture personal well-being.
  • Participate in the clinical assistantship phase, observing and assisting advanced students and licensed acupuncturists.

Year Two: Integration and Clinical Practice

  • Integrate Chinese medicine with biomedical perspectives for disease treatment.
  • Expand knowledge of acupuncture techniques and patient-centered care.
  • Study integrative pain management, clinical counseling, and nutrition.
  • Begin clinical internships, gaining hands-on experience treating patients under faculty supervision.

Year Three: Mastery and Professional Preparation

  • Refine clinical skills through case management studies and explore acupuncture's scientific mechanisms.
  • Study public health’s role in community well-being and engage in interprofessional education.
  • Continue clinical experiences in various settings, including NESA’s Treatment Center, hospitals and the VA system.
  • Prepare for NCCAOM certification exams and develop business management skills for career success.
