Doctor of Acupuncture (DAC)

Upon successful completion of the Doctor of Acupuncture program, students will be able to:

  • Apply the foundational knowledge of acupuncture and/or Chinese herbal medicine to inform diagnosis, treatment, and patient care.
  • Understand biomedical principles of assessment, diagnosis, and treatment to manage patient care and make appropriate referrals to other healthcare providers.
  • Conduct a comprehensive intake, physical exam, and objective assessment to arrive at an East Asian medicine diagnosis.
  • Safely administer a patient-centered acupuncture and/or Chinese herbal medicine treatment.
  • Practice ethically and with integrity while employing critical reasoning, cultural humility, and professional judgment.
  • Communicate effectively in person or through technology to provide patient-centered care and refer to other healthcare professionals as necessary.
  • Implement a plan to establish and sustain a successful career in acupuncture.
  • Utilize scholarship and research to improve patient care.
  • Utilize biomedical diagnostic studies to inform patient care.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing self-reflection, professional development, and lifelong learning.
  • Critically appraise evidence and utilize scholarship and research to improve patient care.
  • Collaborate as part of an integrative healthcare team.
  • Recognize disparities in healthcare and take responsibility for their role in advocating for equity in access and outcomes.
