The Eye of the Storm: The Role of the Pharmacist during COVID-19
This on-demand module will educate pharmacists on opportunities for their involvement in prevention and treatment of COVID-19 infections. It will cover case-studies on how pharmacies managed the novel infectious disease, review current guidelines and best practices for the care of patients with COVID-19, diagnostic testing, and vaccine updates as of March 2022. Learners will be able to bring up to date recommendations from the literature and lessons learned from real world experience back to their practice sites and improve pharmacy practice and patient outcomes.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
- Describe two strategies used during COVID-19 surges to mitigate drug shortages in a health-system setting.
- Explain three steps one hospital took to prevent transmission of COVID-19 infection to staff and patients.
- Given a patient case and a mock protocol, select the most appropriate drug therapy regimen for a patient with COVID-19.
- Describe the types of diagnostic tests for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS CoV2) used in a community/ambulatory care pharmacy setting.
- Provide the most up to date information on vaccines for Coronavirus-19 Disease (COVID-19).
