Master of Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine (MAC CHM)

First Year: Building Foundations

  • Students gain a solid grounding in acupuncture theory, techniques, channels, and point locations, alongside anatomy, physiology, and Asian Medical Bodywork.
  • Learn Qi Gong as a self-care practice.
  • Explore diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in healthcare.
  • Observe and assist licensed acupuncturists in clinical settings.

Second Year: Integration and Clinical Skills Development

  • Integrate Chinese medicine with biomedical perspectives and practical clinical skills.
  • Begin treating patients under faculty supervision.
  • Expand knowledge of Chinese herbal medicine.
  • Take courses in disease treatment, integrative pain management, and clinical counseling.
  • Start the clinical internship phase for hands-on patient care experience.
  • Introduction to the therapeutic properties of Chinese herbs, plants, and minerals.

Third Year: Refinement and Specialization

  • Refine skills through case management studies.
  • Continue clinical training in various healthcare settings.
  • Deepen study in Chinese herbal formulas.
  • Learn integrative nutrition and public health.
  • Engage in interprofessional education to collaborate with other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in a hands-on rotation in NESA’s herbal dispensary focusing on quality control, preparation techniques, and patient interaction.

Fourth Year: Professional Preparation

  • Focus on advanced clinical practice and professional development.
  • Prepare for licensure as a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist.
  • Master the application of Chinese herbal medicine.
  • Management training to develop business acumen for a successful practice.
