Alumni Scholarship Program Encourages Graduates to Keep on Learning
The MCPHS Alumni Scholarship program offers graduates a 50% tuition discount toward one of seven master’s degrees.
Ashley Lacoviello, PharmD ’21, is currently a pharmacy resident at Baystate Medical Center. Keen to pursue a career in healthcare administration and leadership, she felt that an additional degree would help her stand out from the competition in the future.
Lacoviella is enrolled in the Master of Science in Clinical Management program at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS) and graduated in May 2023. A new offering from the University will help additional alumni pursue advanced degrees to accelerate their careers. The MCPHS Alumni Scholarship program provides a 50% tuition discount for all alumni toward one of seven master’s programs, including Iacoviella’s. (See the full list of programs below.)
“I’m applying what I’ve learned in my program directly in my residency and work,” she said. “And a scholarship from MCPHS really eased the financial burden of getting a second degree, pushing me toward fulfilling my goals.”
The seven programs are spread across three schools: the School of Arts & Sciences, the School of Healthcare Business, and the School of Pharmacy. Dean and Assistant Professor of the School of Healthcare Business Mike Spooner, MHA, EdD, oversees three of the seven programs, including the popular MBA in Healthcare Management. He said that many graduates leverage a second degree to find leadership positions at prestigious healthcare institutions or start their own businesses.
“We see that this combination of clinical skills and business education come together to change the future of healthcare,” he explained.
Chief Advancement Officer Sue Gorman, MBA, explained that MCPHS is making significant investments to support the educational needs of alumni.
“The MCPHS Alumni Scholarship puts our graduates on the fast track to succeed in a wide array of healthcare fields,” Gorman said. “We know that our graduates are lifelong learners and support their professional development.”
